Check out Sarah Michelle Gellar in the first promotional picture that’s been released for her new show and tell us she doesn’t remind you of Serena van der Woodsen in Gossip Girl!

The former Buffy actress will star in Ringer, originally developed as a pilot for CBS but when they passed up the chance to air it, the series was picked up by CW – home to Gossip Girl and The Vampire Diaries. The show also stars Fantastic Four actor Ioan Gruffudd, as shown in the photograph.

It’s a far cry from a vampire drama, but it sounds like Ringer will have it’s own fair share of drama, as Gellar stars as a woman hiding from a killer, who impersonates her wealthy twin.

Sarah Michelle Gellar stars as a woman, who after witnessing a murder, goes on the run, hiding out by assuming the life of her wealthy identical twin sister – only to learn that her sister’s seemingly idyllic life is just as complicated and dangerous as the one she’s trying to leave behind. The series stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ioan Gruffudd, Kristoffer Polaha, Nestor Carbonell, Tara Summers and Mike Colter. RINGER is produced by CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros. Television in association with ABC Television Studios and Brillstein Entertainment with executive producers Pam Veasey (“CSI, NY,” “The District”), Peter Traugott (“Samantha Who?”) and Emmy Award-winner Richard Shepard (“Ugly Betty”). The pilot was directed by Richard Shepard.

Sarah’s former co-star Anthony Stewart Head has also landed a role in a upcoming drama this Fall. Best known of course as Buffy’s Rupert Giles, Head will make his big US comeback by playing the third banana in “Free Agents,” an NBC remake of a 2009 British sitcom he also starred in.
